What is the Natural Foresight® Framework?

Natural Foresight ® is an action-based approach to futures thinking. The framework is presented in four technical facets or “phases”: Discover, Explore, Map, and Create.

• Discover: We must look past our present-day dominant mindsets, models, and preconceived ideas in order to recognize disruptors on the horizon of business and society.
• Explore: When we scan the external environment, we create a glimpse into future change, with a much more profound perception than we could ever get from any crystal ball.
• Map: Scenario development immerses people and organizations into future worlds and possibilities, allowing them to assess the validity, robustness, and future-readiness of their current strategies and to uncover new opportunities across innovation, development, and aspirational vision.
• Create: After developing informed maps of the future and pressure-testing current strategies, sustainable foresight must become woven into the fabric of individuals and organizations.

Scenario tools are commonly used during the Map Phase of the Natural Foresight® Framework, but tools and methods from each phase contribute to robust scenario building.
