It is helpful to clearly define scenario concepts as many of these terms are used across various industries and carry different meanings. Below we provide definitions specific to the practice and implementation of scenarios within the field of Strategic Foresight. 

Scenario Development is the entire process of utilizing scenarios as a critical piece of organizational strategy and includes both scenario building and scenario planning.

Scenario Building is the act of creating multiple alternative narratives to form a broad map of possible futures.

Scenario Planning is the process of using scenarios to create present-day outcomes and actions for an organization.
