Why do we need a different approach to foresight?
Our basic ideas about practicing foresight – just like everything else in life – are generally influenced and defined by our linear and mechanistic system centered on siloing, separation, quantification, reduction, control, and extrapolation. Our frustration with this pervasive and limiting approach inspired us to begin sharing the generative futures philosophy of Holoptic Foresight Dynamics® (HFD).
HFD is for anyone who is ready to move beyond futuring as a systemic method, and into futuring as a cooperative trait of life-giving consciousness. This approach seeks to unlock a shared universal dynamic of care, empathy, diversity, collaboration, and love within all, reframing how we approach foresight and futures thinking for more generative and transformative outcomes. “The way we see the future directly impacts the actions we take today.”
Foresight… Futures Thinking… Futures Studies… Futures Literacy… Anticipation.
While some may argue that each of these terms has a unique meaning, they all certainly share one thing in common – an attempt to leverage the future as a means to make better decisions in the present.
HFD profoundly challenges this shared outcome by posing these core questions:
- Can we really produce results that create a transformed world if our value proposition begins with a flawed vision of reality?
- Have we deeply considered the impact that extractive and exploitative systems have on our foresight efforts?
- Can we effectively implement change without first addressing the way we think, feel, sense, and intuit the world around us?
- In a time between worlds, can we afford to utilize foresight tools and methods before we deeply consider our understanding of the very biological, psychological, and sacred nature of futures thinking?
- Is our “doing” truly beneficial if we haven’t first addressed our collective “becoming?”
Such a foundation makes all the difference in the world, liberating us from the efficient tyranny of circular “doing” into the kinship, the relational emergence, the meadowverse, the pluriversiality, and the cosmovision of “being” and “becoming.” With such a foundation, our work can become truly human, symbiotic, meaningful, and spiritual.
