Natural Foresight® is an approach to foresight inspired by nature’s regenerative dynamics. This offers a stark contrast to rigid, linear approaches to futures planning that fail when dealing with 21st century complexity. While many foresight offerings focus solely on the latest fads and technological trends, Natural Foresight was born from the recognition that the future is ultimately about people, values, and their deep-seeded narratives.
With roots in 20th century military intelligence, foresight initially emphasized trend scouting, risk management, and prediction as its predominant features. The practice was embraced as a means to “future-proof” our outcomes, avoid surprises to the system, and “win the future” before our competitors. In organizations, competitive foresight intelligence represented the modern emphasis on simplification, linearization, and mechanization.
Natural Foresight takes a different view. The capacity to anticipate is not something humans invented; it is embedded in the inherent processes of life. Evident across both micro and macro systems, living things continually sense, anticipate, adapt, and transform in relationship with changing conditions.
Through this lens, futures thinking moves beyond modernity’s mechanistic framing toward an understanding of foresight as a biological, psychological, and sacred dynamic of all living things.
From Orientation to Practice
Natural Foresight offers a different way of understanding and engaging with the future. Developing that orientation into a professional practice requires capabilities that can be intentionally cultivated and applied.
Professional foresight requires more than knowing how to identify trends or imagine possible futures. It calls for the ability to sense emerging change, recognize patterns and relationships, question assumptions, work with uncertainty, and help others engage with what might be possible.
The Professional Foresight Certification in Natural Foresight® is designed to develop these capabilities and provide a foundation for practicing foresight professionally.
The Path to Professional Foresight Certification
Becoming a professional foresight practitioner is a journey of developing both capability and perspective. Professional Foresight Certification in Natural Foresight® is designed to help you build the knowledge, skills, and mindsets needed to apply foresight in real-world settings.
Throughout the program, you will deepen your understanding of the Natural Foresight Framework, build practical foresight capabilities, and demonstrate your ability to apply what you have learned. Successful completion of the program and assessment leads to the Certified Foresight Practitioner designation, recognizing demonstrated competency in Natural Foresight.
Earning your Certified Foresight Practitioner designation is an important milestone, but it is not the end of your development as a foresight practitioner. The Continued Learning Path provides opportunities to deepen your practice, develop areas of specialization, and continue building your professional foresight capabilities.
The Global Foresight Advisory Council
The Global Foresight Advisory Council (GFAC) plays an important role in Professional Foresight Certification in Natural Foresight®. The GFAC supports TFSX’s mission of ethically democratizing the future around the world. In addition to offering mentorship and guidance, the GFAC serves as the accrediting body for The Futures School Professional Foresight Certification, helping ensure the credential reflects meaningful standards of professional foresight competency and practice.
The GFAC brings together an international group of multidisciplinary leaders who are redefining what is possible and are guided by an innate futurist mindset. Their diverse backgrounds and practical experience help inform the continued evolution of the certification and its connection to the changing practice of foresight around the world.
The Council’s work is organized around three areas of focus: Experiences, Thought Leadership, and Recognition & Credentialing.
As you move through the certification program, the GFAC provides an important connection between your individual development as a practitioner and the broader professional foresight community.

The Universe of Natural Foresight®
The Universe of Natural Foresight® is an interconnected system that brings together how we understand foresight, how we practice it, and where we apply it to create impact.
Professional competency within this universe is organized across three inseparable domains: Behavioral, Technical, and Impact. Rather than progressing through these as stages, practitioners learn to move fluidly across the domains based on the context, intention, and what is unfolding over time.
The Guide to Natural Foresight® Certification: A shared language, worldview, and practice to anticipate the future activates the Universe by serving as the Body of Competency and Knowledge for Natural Foresight. In this text, learners are equipped and empowered with a common language, worldview, and set of principles that can be applied across their spheres of influence.
